Visitation Guidelines

Visitors are an essential part of our patients' experience, and we are working diligently to help patients stay connected to their loved ones. We must also ensure that both visitors and our patients are safe. We appreciate your cooperation. Visiting hours are noted below.
General Guidelines
Visitors are welcome with restrictions at these locations: hospitals, emergency rooms, rehabilitation units and facilities, behavioral health locations, infusion centers and certain cancer areas.
Restrictions:
- Children 12 and under and anyone with respiratory symptoms should not visit the locations listed above.
- We ask that visitors at these locations wear masks in areas where direct patient care is provided and in emergency room waiting areas.
- Patients may request that their health care team wear masks if it makes them feel more comfortable.
- Masks will be available at all Atrium Health Floyd facilities for anyone who chooses to wear one.
Hospital Visitation
- Children 12 and under and anyone with respiratory symptoms should not visit.
- We ask that visitors wear masks in areas where direct patient care is provided and in emergency room waiting areas.
- Visitation times for admitted patients are daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Patients under 18 may have no more than four visitors in a room at one time during visiting hours.
- Two parents or guardians may stay overnight with pediatric patients.
- Maternity patients may have siblings of the newborn visit if siblings are 13 and older.
- Patients having surgery may have visitors before and after surgery, regardless of the time of day.
- If a patient is admitted after visiting hours, one visitor may stay overnight.
- Special circumstances will be managed by the treating provider and nursing unit leadership.
- If a patient needs an in-room procedure that requires the visitor to leave the room, the visitor may wait in a waiting area.
Emergency Rooms
- Children 12 and under and anyone with respiratory symptoms should not visit.
- A mask must be worn in Emergency Room lobbies, waiting areas and triage rooms.
- Patients may have one visitor at any time.
- Visitation may be further restricted or eliminated at the discretion of the onsite manager when patient/visitor volumes rise.
- Visitors will not be allowed in the patient care area if the patient is receiving an aerosolizing procedure or undergoing certain medical procedures.
Women's and Children's (Maternity/Labor & Delivery)
- Visitation times for admitted patients are daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Children of the mother who are 13 and older may visit in Labor and Delivery during visiting hours.
- Three people may be at the bedside during labor and delivery. Four may visit after delivery.
- One visitor over the age of 18 may stay overnight.
- The partner of the laboring mother may stay overnight, regardless of age.
- Doulas and labor coaches who are part of the patient's birthing plan are not considered visitors.
- Special circumstances will be managed by the treating provider and nursing unit leadership.
- If a patient needs an in-room procedure that requires visitors to leave the room, visitors may wait in a waiting area.
NICU/Pediatrics
- Babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center are permitted two adult visitors at any time. Siblings 13 years and older may visit during visitation hours, which are 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
- Two designated visitors are permitted at the bedside at one time.
- Social distancing and proper hand hygiene should be observed.
- Pediatric patients (hospitalized, emergency room and surgery) will be permitted four (4) visitors during visiting hours. Two visitors may stay overnight with pediatric patients.
COVID-19 Patient Visitation
COVID-19 patients who meet one of the following conditions will be permitted one visitor:
- Visitors should check in at the nursing station to ensure the visit can take place.
- Visitors must wear a surgical mask that covers their nose and mouth or non-fit tested N95/KN95 mask.
- Visitors may choose to wear a gown, gloves and eye protection. These items will be provided upon request.
- Visitors must remain in the patient's room with the door closed.
- Visitors will not be allowed if the patient is receiving an aerosolizing procedure (i.e., BiPAP).
- Nursing leadership will monitor patients who are receiving aerosolizing treatments to assess if an in-person visit will occur.
- If necessary, nursing will work with the attending physician to coordinate a visit.
- Visitors are encouraged to eat prior to arrival. If eating while in a patient's room, visitors should be at least 6 feet from the patient before taking off their mask.
- At the end of the visitation, designated visitors will be instructed to leave the facility without visiting any other location.
Behavioral Health Visitation
- Children 12 and under and anyone with respiratory symptoms should not visit.
- We ask that visitors wear masks in areas where direct patient care is provided.
Surgery Visitation
- Surgery patients are permitted two visitors in pre-operative and post-operative care, regardless of visitation hours.
- Pediatric surgery patients are allowed two parents or guardians in pre-operative and post-operative care.
- If a surgery patient is admitted, hospital visitation guidelines apply.
Outpatient Appointment Visitation
Visitors are permitted in the following settings:
- Primary Care
- Urgent Care
- Rehabilitation Services
- Wound Care
- Diagnostic Imaging
Visitation may be restricted or eliminated at the discretion of the onsite manager when patient/visitor volumes rise.
When possible, adult patients should not bring minor children with them to their primary care, urgent care or outpatient appointments. If an adult visitor accompanies the patient to the appointment, the adult will be asked to stay with the children in the waiting area or outside during the visit.
