​The Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center Family Medicine Residency program is the second oldest family medicine program in Georgia. We are ​an unopposed residency and one of the first programs in Georgia to receive ACGME Osteopathic Recognition.​

Atrium Health Floyd offers a unique residency experience focused on community he​alth and wellness. We use innovative modalities, such as POCUS and osteopathic manipulative techniques, in a small group learning environment while pursuing research, patient safety and​​ quality. ​​​

​Get to Know Us

  • We are an unopposed family medicine residency at a community- based hospital.
  • We have 27​ residents with learning facilitated by nine full-time and five part-time family medicine faculty, as well as numerous community specialists. 
  • We care for an underserved and diverse patient population and provide prenatal to geriatric services.
  • We have an active hospital inpatient service, which provides treatment for patients from the moment of admission from the Emergency Care Center until discharge. We even provide full ICU care for our patients. 
  • We offer many opportunities for our residents to perform a variety of inpatient and outpatient procedures medical resident showing test resultsincluding ​POCUS, colposcopies, IUD and Nexplanon insertions, minor surgeries, joint injections, paracenteses, thoracenteses, obstetrical procedures and OMT clinics.
  • We maintain a Level III ​Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model providing care coordination including transportation to and from our clinic, and we provide reduced and free care including medications to our uninsured patients in our County Clinic and WeCare Programs.
  • We welcome third- and fourth-year clinical rotations for most U.S. medical resident performing OMTmedical schools.
  • We are proud that we have maintained a rolling five-year, 100% board pass rate for our graduates.
  • We encourage robust scholarly activity via a research curriculum for our residents, supported by our faculty. We have presented projects at our local medical schools, the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and at STFM (Society of Teachers of Family Medicine).​​​

​As you can see, we have a lot of great ​opportunities and are excited for you to learn more about our program. ​We have a long, rich history of training ​high-quality family physicians. Our graduates have gone on to practice full-spectrum care, obstetrics, sports medicine, hospital medicine, outpatient ​care, urgent care, emergency medicine and academic medicine. Program Highlights

The Floyd Family Medicine Residency program is a three-year comprehensive experience that gives residents hands-on opportunities in an ​environment of camaraderie, teamwork and family. Meet our residents and faculty.

Our sponsoring hospital and training facility is Floyd Medical Center. Based in Rome, Georgia, residents benefit from training in a medical hub that boasts over 300 physician specialists and draws patients from a seven-county area.​
