​​​​Observation Opportunities

Observation experiences with Atrium Health Floyd in Rome, Georgia, are offered for career exploration or as required hours for medical school applications. Volunteering or entry level jobs are also options for required application hours.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old, 18 years old in surgical areas.

Observation refers to shadowing an employee to complete required hours for medical school applications.

This is observation only with no hands-on experience.

Requirements

Before you can observe on any Atrium Health Floyd campus, you need to complete an Acemapp application.

Before beginning your Acemapp application remember these guidelines and instructions:

  • It is your responsibility to identify a qualified person to observe and get their approval. They must be listed along with their contact information when completing your application, or your application will be declined.
  • You must complete a background check and drug screening. Associated costs are your responsibility.
  • Enroll in Acemapp​ and meet all the requirements for an identification (ID) badge.
  • Submit your observation request at least 30 days in advance to allow time to confirm a mentor and complete your requirements.

Expectations

As an observer on campus, you are expected to:

  • Wear your ID badge above your waist at all times.
  • Wear teal scrubs to indicate your status as an observer. Associated costs are your responsibility.
  • Coordinate with your mentor for the dates and times of your observation.
  • Follow the rules and policies of Atrium Health Floyd and your mentor.
  • Respect the privacy and confidentiality of patients and staff.
  • Observe only. Do not perform any clinical tasks or procedures.

How to Apply

To apply for observation with Atrium Health Floyd, you need to:

  • ​Go to Acemapp.org. Select Register, and then ​"Professional/General Member Registration."
  • Create your Acemapp account. Once your account is approved, you will be notified by email. Click through the link provided in the email to begin the following steps:
    • In Acemapp, complete the required modules and upload the necessary documents.
    • Collect your ID badge from security.
    • Contact your mentor and confirm your observation or shadowing schedule.
    • Meeting Atrium Health Floyd's requirements in Acemapp typically takes about 14 business days, but some students may complete it faster.
