High School Student Opportunities
Academic Internship Program
The Atrium Health Floyd High School Academic Internship Program gives students the opportunity to:
- learn more about the health care field
- gain hands-on experience
- broaden their exposure to different career options
The program is designed to increase the awareness of the wide range of health care opportunities among students in local high schools.
We partner with local high school medical sciences programs, such as College and Career Academies and HOSA, to offer students the opportunity to shadow professionals in one of our clinical sites. You will get to observe and interact with doctors, nurses, therapists, technicians and other health care workers in various departments and specialties.
To participate in this program, you must be enrolled in a high school medical sciences program and have the approval of your school's work-based learning coordinator. You will also need to complete an application, a background check, a health screening and orientation. Depending on the availability of placements, you may be able to choose the area of interest that you want to shadow.
If you are interested in an internship, please contact your school's work-based learning coordinator.
Volunteer Program
High school students may also become an Atrium Health Floyd volunteer through the hospital's volunteen program. As a volunteer, you will provide valuable services to our patients, visitors and staff, while developing your skills and gaining experience. You will also be able to attend educational events and network with health care professionals.
Volunteers must be 16 years old.
Learn more about our volunteen program and apply.
