The most important thing you can do to manage heart failure is to follow the treatment plan given by your health care provider. This means that you will need to keep track of daily care at home and note any changes with your body.  ​

The American Heart Association offers an interactive workbook heart failure workbookthat provides information on living with heart failure including:

  • ​Understanding the types of heart failure, including congestive heart failure, and their ​effects on the body

  • Heart-healthy eating choices, including tracking your fluid intake

  • Healthy lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking and exercising

  • Medication options and their side effects

  • Treatment options
