Vitamins and minerals are essential and will promote proper healing and long-term health. While specific recommendations may vary to accommodate each patient’s particular health needs, the following supplements should be taken by post-surgery patients:
- Complete multivitamin with minerals
- Calcium citrate 1800 mg
- B12 1000 mcg, sublingual, three times per week
Supplements are not created equal. Type and brand, as well as, timing, matter when it comes to the nutrition you need after bariatric surgery.
Your surgeon and nutritionist will provide education on when and how to take vitamin and minerals needed based on your surgery type. After surgery, most patients will take supplements about six times per day.
