Marsha's Weight Loss Story
Weight Lost: 170 lbs.
Comorbidity Resolutions: Resolved sleep apnea, blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes
Surgery Type: Gastric Bypass
I had gotten to a point where I was in trouble health-wise. I could hardly walk, and my legs and back were giving me fits. There were times I could barely make it through the grocery store. It had just gotten that bad. My doctor had sent me to a heart specialist to see if he could help me. I had already gone to another doctor about my back and legs. All of them said, 'It’s your weight.' I had a friend who had gastric bypass surgery with Dr. Scott, and it was very successful. She loved Dr. Scott and the whole team. So, I started looking into bariatric surgery in South Georgia, where I live. But gastric bypass surgery was not an option there, so I came to Rome.
Surgery Outcomes
At my heaviest, I was 444 pounds. So far, I have lost 248 pounds. The day I had the surgery, I had no pain. When I was in the hospital the, nurse said, 'You know why you are having such an easy time? It’s because you did everything you were supposed to ahead of time.'
A New Life
I love to eat, and I love to cook. That has not changed. But now, my whole mindset is different. I look at food differently, and I know a lot more about nutrition now. I thought I knew a lot beforehand, but I learned what real nutrition is. I have so much energy, and I feel good. I didn’t realize how bad I felt before the surgery. I sleep better, and I feel 10 years younger. I know I look 10 years younger! My first grandchild was a year old when I had the surgery. There were so many things I could not do with him. Now that I have my second grandchild, I am realizing all the things I am doing with them both that I could not even think about doing before.
